LIP Goals - Learning Improvement Plan 2014/2015

Each year, Ethel Milliken School sets out the new Learning Improvement Plan.  The “LIP” goals starts at the provincial level, then goals are set at the division level and then each school develops its own set of goals for the school year.

This year the focus for Ethel Milliken School is on Literacy and Numeracy.

In support of these goals, the EMSCC has voted to top up the subscription to the Mathletics Program.  This program was purchased in 2013/2014 and because of increased enrollment, we were required to increase our subscription fee for this school year.

Mathletics is a web-based learning tool. Each child has his/her own userID and password.

The math exercises are geared to the children’s grade level and they can work progressively through the challenging and fun exercises either independently, or with the help of their parent.   The EMSCC encourages each family to work with their child to access this on-line tool.  Each child learns in their own way and making MATH fun helps develop the math skills that they use in the classroom and in life!  If you have any questions about how to use the MATHLETICS program, please contact your child's teacher.

The EMSCC voted to also enhance the LIP goals by purchasing additional DUAL language books for the EAL reading program.

These books show the child's story in both English and their first language.  The books are very popular for students learning English and by using them, the children can demonstrate and improve their overall reading skills.

If you would like more information about these dual language books or other supports to the EAL program, please contact our school administration.

Mom and Dad, can I call a friend?

The Ethel Milliken School Community Council is creating a 2014/15 school directory.  It is simply a list of the students' names with contact information.  It is useful for families when trying to get together with friends or plan parties.  Our school is growing and a directory is a good tool for helping us get to know one another!  Participation is VOLUNTARY so if you would like to participate you need to fill out a form and return it to school.  These forms did go home in your child's backpack but if you didn't get it, please find another copy attached below.  Print it out and return by Monday October 13th.  Then we will put together the directory and send a copy home with each family.
