A Note from Administration:

October was a fun and busy moth!  Students enjoyed our first Healthy Hunger lunch from Boston Pizza, a popcorn day courtesy of the SRC and had a lot of fun at the Halloween dance! Our staff was replaced by Disney Villains for the afternoon October 31 but luckily, the regular teachers have returned! Please do not send candy and treats to school!

The Eagle has Landed:

The SCC conducted a student vote to select a new eagle mascot for our school!  The new eagle will be featured on school clothing that is going to be sold on November 15 during conferences!  Here is our new eagle

Online Popcorn and Menchie sales:

Regina Public Schools are intended to be cashless schools.  For this reason, families will now need to purchase SRC popcorn and Menchies through Schools Cash Online.  You can purchase a 10 punch Menchie’s card for $30.00 and you can order popcorn for $1.00 per popcorn day.  Families can choose to order popcorn for all 7 popcorn days or just order one at a time.  Thank you for your cooperation with this change.

Special Events:

Our Remembrance Day Ceremony will take place on Friday, November 8 at 10:45 p.m. All parents and community members are invited to attend and to honour those who served for our freedom.

We will be hosting our first Circle of Courage assembly on November 27 at 10:45. We will be celebrating the value of belonging.  Parents and community members are invited to attend and celebrate with us!

Healthy Hunger:

Our next Healthy Hunger lunch takes place on Friday, November 29 and it is Edo.  The deadline to order is November 25. These lunches can be ordered online if your family chooses to participate.  For instructions on how to sign up for the program click here.

3 Way/Student led Conferences:

Conferences for Kindergarten students are November 14 and 15.  There is no school for Kindergarten students on either of those days.  Grade 1-8 conferences will take place on November 15.  There is no school for students however students are expected to attend conferences with their parents.  If you have not already scheduled your conference time you can do so by following these instructions:

Step 1 – Pre-Register at https://reginapublic.schoolsoft.com (DO NOT include “www” in the url)

You can set up a Parent Account by following the link above. Click the REGISTER NOW button and complete the registration form. Your login credentials (email and password) will remain in the system to make it easy to access the Conference Manager in the future.

Please note that in order to enhance functionality and security, the Conference Manager requires you to use Internet Explorer 7 (or above), Firefox 3 (or above) or Safari 4 (or above). If you are using an older browser, the Conference Manager will automatically prompt you to update your browser and provide you with a link. This is a one-time process and only takes a couple of minutes.

In order to ensure that your email program does not block emails sent from the Conference Manager, we suggest adding appointments@schoolsoft.com to your address book.

Step 2 – Conference Manager Opens to Parents – Monday, October 28th.

You can access the Parent Login Page using the link in the Confirmation Email. If you do not receive a Confirmation Email, you can login by going directly to https://reginapublic.schoolsoft.com.

If you do not have Internet access, you are welcome to contact the office beginning Thursday, October 31st, and we will schedule your conferences on your behalf.

Step 3 – Book your Parent-Teacher interviews

Select the teachers with whom you want to book interviews. You will see each teacher’s schedule. After booking your appointments you can print off your schedule. You will also receive an email containing the teacher name, time and location of the conference. You can log into the system at any time to view your bookings, print, cancel or re-schedule appointments.  You have the option of submitting comments or questions to the teacher as part of the booking process.

Important Dates:

Monday, October 28th – Start scheduling your interviews at 6:00 AM

Tuesday, November 11th– Conference Manager closes at 10:00 PM

Thursday November 14th – Parent Teacher Interviews for Kindergarten – No school for Kindergartens only

Friday, October 15th – Parent Teacher Interviews for K-Grade 8 – No school for all students

Conferences are scheduled at 15 minute intervals and we ask that you reschedule your conference for another day if you arrive late or are unable to make this time.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact the school.

Attendance:

Attendance matters in Regina Public and we want our students at school as much as possible to maximize learning opportunities but, sometimes, students need to stay at home.  If students are too ill to participate in regular classroom activities including recess, if they are contagious, or if they are vomiting or have diarrhea, they need to remain at home until they are well.

School Community Council:

Our SCC is a group of supportive parents who work with school staff and administration to support our strategic plan goals and to enhance our school and community. The SCC meets once each month to discuss issues in the school, to plan school events and to find ways to engage our families and community in our school.  Parents can join the SCC formally as executive members or more informally by attending meetings. If you would like more information on the SCC, please visit their website at https://www.millikencommunitycouncil.com/ or e-mail emscommcouncil@gmail.com. Our next meeting is Wednesday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m.

School Fluoride treatments:

The Saskatchewan Health Authority Oral Health Program offers services to schools that have not met the Canadian Oral Health Framework objectives for the 2018-19 oral health screening of students in grades 1 and 7. A fluoride varnish program is being implemented at your school for students in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2. Children enrolled in the fluoride varnish program may receive two applications of fluoride varnish per school year until the end of grade 2.

Fluoride varnish is a protective coating that is applied on teeth to prevent cavities. It can also be applied on teeth that already have cavities. Fluoride can slow down or stop cavities from getting bigger. This does not replace regular checkups at your dental office as your child may still need dental treatment. Along with being safe, fluoride varnish is an inexpensive and practical way to reduce tooth decay.

A dental health educator will be at your school on November 13th – 14th for the first application of fluoride varnish. Please watch for information and consents coming home with your child. Your consent will stay valid until your child completes grade 2 or until their consent is withdrawn.
