A Note from Administration:

Welcome back to school! We are so excited to work with such a talented, dedicated staff and a group of enthusiastic students who are ready to learn!  We will be hosting our first assembly at 2:30 on Friday, September 6, 2019. Our theme this year is TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) and we will be celebrating this theme as we introduce our new staff at what promises to be a fun, exciting TEAM themed assembly. 

On Wednesday, September 11 families are invited to an open house evening. From 5:00-5:45. Bon Burger and Queen city grill food trucks will be parked outside the school and families can purchase supper if they choose.  Bon Burger has a vegetarian burger option for families who do not eat meat. We will also have Queen City Grill Party who offer Halal certified kebab, schnitzel and chicken breast!   The gym will be set up with tables and chairs so families and staff can eat together and socialize. Representatives from the Regina Public Library will be set up in the gym to issue library cards to families and to share programming options. At 5:45-6:45 the rest of the school will be open and families can drop in and visit the classrooms and meet their children’s teachers. We hope to see many families at this event.

We are thrilled to be working in this vibrant community and look forward to a fabulous year.

Office Hours:

Mrs. Schneider, our administrative assistant, will be in the office from 8:15-10:30, 10:45-11:45, 12:45-2:15 and 2:30-3:45.  If you call outside of these hours, please leave a message on the voicemail and she will return your call.  Also, feel free to e-mail the office at


Attendance is taken daily at 9:10 and 1:00. Any students arriving after that time must come to the office to receive a late slip.  If your child will not be at school, please call the school (306) 791-8489 to report the absence before 9:10 in the morning and before 1:00 in the afternoon.

Lunch and lunchroom:

Students who are transported by bus stay for lunch.  Students who walk to school have the option to stay but are required to pay the lunchroom supervision fee.  All students who stay for lunch must have completed the Regina Public Schools Student/Parent Lunchroom agreement.  This will be coming home on Wednesday, September 4 with all students.  Students who do not stay for lunch may not return to school until 12:30 when playground supervisors will be outside.  Please send healthy, nut free lunches and snacks to school.  No energy drinks, pop or sunflower seeds please!

Ethel Milliken will be participating in the special lunch program through “Healthy Hunger” stay tuned for details about upcoming special lunches.

Cell Phones and Electronics:

  • Cell phones, Ipods and Ipads are brought to school at the parent's discretion.  
  • Ethel Milliken School is not responsible for lost or damaged devices.  
  • Device use during the school day is at the discretion of the classroom teacher and/or lunchroom supervisor.  
  • Devices must be kept in the classroom following the classroom storage procedure between 8:53-3:37. No devices can be used on the playground, hallways or other common areas of the school or the school property during school hours. 
  • Devices are not to be used in the washrooms.  
  • Any student abusing the device policy may have the following circumstances:
  • 1st offence:  A warning and device held by the teacher for the remainder of the school day.
  • 2nd offence:  Device held in the office for the remainder of the school day.
  • 3rd offence: Device held in the office until a parent/guardian comes to collect it.
  • Any device used in a manner that is not consistent with the values of Regina Public Schools will be considered a serious offence and the device will be held in the office until parents/guardians come in for a meeting and to collect the device.




Playground supervision for students who do not take the bus is available from 8:37-8:54, 10:30-10:45, 12:30-12:45 and 2:15-2:30.  Non-bus students should not arrive at school prior to 8:37 and should leave the school promptly at 3:37.  If this is an issue, Sandcastles daycare offers a before and after program at Ethel Milliken which runs from 7:00 am-6:00 pm. We will be using PowerSchool for attendance and assessment once again this year.  Parents are encouraged to use the Parent Portal to keep up to date on student progress.  If you require the log in information for your PowerSchool account, you will need to come into the school in person to get it, we are not permitted to share it by e-mail or over the phone.

Parents at the School:

Please check in at the office if you are coming to the school. In order to minimize disruptions and to ensure the safety of students, all adults should check in at the office and students will be called down to the office if they are being picked up early for an appointment or need to see their parents during the school day.  Parents who are picking up students for lunch should wait at the office and the students will come to the front door to meet them. It is important the we are aware of the adults who are in the school at all times.


Parents wishing to volunteer in the school are required to have a police information check.  Any person who provides services to students on a recurring scheduled basis requires an original Police Information Check (PIC). Any person supervising students on their own (even for just one occasion) also requires an original PIC. The PIC must be specific to work/volunteering in Regina Public Schools. Third-party and photocopied Police Information Checks will not be accepted. This includes individuals involved with before-and-after-school programs and extracurricular activities, including individuals who are supervising overnight trips. The applicant must attend at their local police service to apply for a PIC using that police service's form. As of March 19, 2018, the Regina City Police Service implemented a fee of$10.00 for processing a Police Information Check for an individual in a volunteer capacity. (Processing fee is the responsibility of the volunteer applicant.)

Please note: Police information Checks become the property of Regina Public Schools. Copies will not be provided for other use.

Volunteers who were utilized during the past year and who have a satisfactory PIC on file do not require a new PIC for this school year, unless volunteers have not been utilized for more than 12 consecutive months, in which case a new PIC must be obtained.

In July, 2010, Canadian police services announced mandatory changes to the way in which Police Information Checks (PICs) will be processed. Implementation of this process resulted in more PIC applicants being required to submit fingerprints to Ottawa for processing. Regina residents, please visit the Regina Police Service website for more details. If you reside outside of Regina, you must obtain your police information check from your local RCMP detachment or police service.

Curricular activities in the Milliken Neighbourhood:

From time to time teachers may take students outside of the school to participate in low risk, curricular activities. Some examples of these activities include a walk around the neighbourhood or a walk to a nearby park or business such as the local public library branch.  Teachers may inform you of these types of excursions through the student agenda, a note home, or an app such as see saw or remind.  As these are low risk, curricular activities we will not be sending a permission form home for these types of events.

Milliken School Events:

The calendar on our school website should be up to date for all school wide Milliken events.  Teachers will also use student agendas, notes and apps like see saw, google classroom and remind to communicate with you.  Please check the website for the most up to date news and information.

School Community Council:

Our SCC is a group of supportive parents who work with school staff and administration to support our strategic plan goals and to enhance our school and community. The SCC meets once each month to discuss issues in the school, to plan school events and to find ways to engage our families and community in our school.  Parents can join the SCC formally as executive members or more informally by attending meetings. Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the library.  If you would like more information on the SCC, please visit their website at or e-mail

School Enrollment:

Regina Public Schools keeps track of school enrollment for the first 2 weeks of school in each of Regina Public Schools.  This information helps the school division to make decisions about staffing changes, increases or decreases at each school based on enrollment. Should changes occur in our school, parents will be informed and we will do our best to ensure a smooth transition in the event that our staffing increases or decreases or if we need to move any students due to classroom sizes.  Thank you for your support and patience with this process.

Transportation Eligibility:

Please note that, effective September 2017, there were changes to transportation eligibility for all students. Only students residing within an established Transportation Zone will be eligible for transportation. A description of the Transportation Zones along with Zone maps are available at the links below:

If transportation services are available for your address it will be noted with your eligible school information. If there is no notation listed, your address is not eligible for transportation service.
